Digital questionnaires for sociodemographic surveys in conservation units – an application in XLSFORMS for Survey123

The three formularies gathered here (community, household socioeconomic, and household sociodemographic questionnaires) were developed for the project Populações Tradicionais em Áreas Protegidas – dinâmicas socioambientais e gestão de Unidades de Conservação no Mosaico Baixo Rio Negro (Traditional Populations in Protected Areas – socioenvironmental dynamics and management of conservation units in the Baixo Rio Negro Mosaic), in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, with the aim of enabling a sociodemographic survey applied to Land Use and Land Cover studies in rural areas of the Amazonia. The questionnaires were produced in XLSFORM, a free and open access formulary standard that is easy to operate (https://xlsform.org/en/) and can be edited in MS EXCEL or other similar applications. We used the formularies in the ESRI Survey123 application (https://survey123.arcgis.com/) which is compatible with other Android and IOS apps, such as Kobotoolbox (https://www.kobotoolbox.org/) and ODK Collect (https://getodk.org/). Throughout 2022, 763 questionnaires were applied in 109 communities in the Baixo Rio Negro Mosaic (MBRN). The community questionnaires (Comunidades.xlsx) were applied to leaders of the rural communities visited; and the household questionnaires (Sociodemografico.xlsx and Socioeconomico.xlsx) were applied to the couples responsible for the interviewed households.
