Hydrothermal vents are now recognized sources of trace elements to the ocean inventory. However, the contribution of slow-spreading ridges remains poorly resolved. In this Thesis I used two approaches to further advance our knowledge on the iron (Fe) cycle knowledge in hydrothermal environments. First, I determined the reduced iron (Fe(II)) oxidation rate constants (kFe) and Fe(II) concentrations in deep ocean waters and six different hydrothermal vent sites along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge during a transect study (GEOTRACES GA13).
