AbstractThis article presents a short overview of the pottery from the earliestneolithic settlements in the river Aisne valley (Aisne département, Picardy,France), dating to the Paris basin late Bandkeramik, at around 5000 cal.BC. With over three thousand identified vessels, the corpus of pottery is oneof the largest currently available for the later stages of the Bandkeramikin west-central Europe. Most of the ceramic finds come from the lateral pitsof longhouses, a context that offers the advantage of reflecting productionand consumption of pottery by a household over a relatively short timespan.The ceramics can be divided into three main categories: decorated andundecorated fine wares, and coarse ware with temper.
