International audienceThe 4th century BC is marked by intense diplomatic and military activity between Greeks andPersians. Wars were rare, but Persian interventions in the Aegean world were not lacking. All of them haveoften been presented in the same way: through the subsidies they granted, the Persians maintained the disunityof the Greeks and prevented the emergence of a hegemon in the Balkans.
