Spermatogenic cell chromatin undergoes a drastic reorganisation during spermiogenesis. This phenomenon occurs for two principles reasons: first, to establish a highly compact genome through protamine incorporation, in order to protect the sperm genome before and upon fertilization. Second, in order to successfully transfer the paternal information carried by the sperm genome, to the next generation. Recently, our laboratory identified various actors and molecular mechanisms, which are at the heart of this drastic genome reorganisation.
