This paper presents the status of developments worldwide regarding use of hybrid rocket motors for space transportation. Historical roots are presented and reasons for revisiting hybrid technology after a few decades of limited interest are examined. Modern developments in sounding rockets, reusable suborbital systems and launch vehicles are discussed with particular focus on propellant technology. Various propellant combinations include use of liquid oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, nitrous oxide and nitrous oxide-oxygen mixtures as oxidizers.
