The law of August 16-24, 1790 led to a complete recomposition of the jurisdictional landscape in France. Local justice was thus completely overhauled: justice of the peace succeeded the seigniorial judiciary system. Through this microhistorical (the territory that forms the canton of Saint-Tropez) and transversal (1773-1803) approach to the relationship between local justice and those subject to trial, a relative distancing from justice was thus observed as early as 1791. On the other hand, a certain continuity is observed at the level of the judiciary professionals.
