Desymetrization reactions of meso compounds is well known and efficient strategy for the synthesis of compounds possessing multiple stereocenters in one step. Oxa- and azabenzonorbornadienes can be cited as a relevant example of meso compounds. Several metal-catalyzed ring-opening reactions of such substrates have been developed with high yields and high enantiomeric excesses using various nucleophiles, such as amines, alcohols, boronic acids or organometallic reagents.
