A contribution to the understanding of the incubation process of new businesses based on the analysis of a case study

Neste sentido, a presente investigação tem como título: Um contributo para a compreensão do processo de incubação de novos negócios baseado na análise de um estudo de caso. Para tal procedeu-se a uma análise qualitativa, recorrendo à análise de um estudo de caso, de forma a perceber as relações estabelecidas entre uma empresa incubadora e uma das empresas que frequentaram o seu programa de incubação. O principal objetivo passa pela compreensão do papel e importância da participação de cada empresa, incubadora ou incubada, nos processos de incubação. Identificando, dentro das limitações vividas, os serviços e recursos chave para o sucesso destes processos, definindo o período estimado de incubação, identificando critérios de seleção, identificando o papel e importância da função das redes de contactos num ecossistema de incubação, entre outros. Para a realização do estudo de caso realizaram-se entrevistas, recolhendo informação passível de comparação com os dados obtidos durante a fase de revisão da literatura. Esta investigação torna-se relevante pelo contributo para a renovação e atualização de informações e teorias acerca dos processos de incubação de novos negócios atualmente, dada a escassez e pouca exploração do tema. Com o desenvolvimento desta dissertação foi possível responder e tirar conclusões acerca dos objetivos da mesma. Houve a possibilidade de descrever os recursos e serviços oferecidos pela empresa incubadora às suas incubadas, descrever o processo de incubação de novos negócios utilizado pela incubadora, quais os critérios que determinam o sucesso do processo de incubação, etc. Acima de tudo, é viável concluir que o principal contributo do estudo de caso e da presente investigação é apresentar uma visão mais próxima da realidade atual das incubadoras, perceber a relação próxima e flexível que se estabelece entre as empresas intervenientes no processo de incubação de novos negócios e os desafios que encontram no seu ecossistema.Studies concerning incubators, incubation processes and relationships between incubators and incubated companies are still quite limited and with some gaps to be studied. In this sense, the present research is entitled: A contribution to the understanding of the incubation process of new businesses based on the analysis of a case study. To accomplish this, a qualitative analysis was developed, using a real case study of the relationships established between an incubator company and one of the companies that attended its incubation program. The primary purpose is to understand the role and importance of the participation of each company, incubator or incubatee, in the incubation processes. Identifying, within the constraints experienced, the key services and resources for the success of these processes, defining the estimated incubation period, identifying selection criteria, identifying the role and importance of the function of networks in an incubation ecosystem, among others. To conduct the case study, interviews were held, collecting information that could be compared with the data collected during the literature review phase. This research becomes relevant by contributing to the renewal and updating of information and theories about the incubation processes of new businesses today, given the scarcity and little exploration of the subject. Through the development of this dissertation, it was possible to address and draw conclusions concerning its objectives. It was possible to describe the resources and services offered by the incubator company to its incubatees, describe the incubation process of new businesses used by the incubator, what criteria determine the success of the incubation process, etc. Above all, it is feasible to conclude that the main contribution of the case study and the present research is to present a closer view of the current reality of incubators, to perceive the close and flexible relationship that is established between the companies intervening in the incubation process of new businesses and the challenges they encounter in their ecosystem
