Petroleum and its derivatives are among the major pollutants of soil. Bioremediation, a method that uses the ability of microorganisms to decompose toxic waste, is a prevailing trend in the decontamination of polluted soil contaminated by petroleum and its derivates. Bioremediation procedures are in harmony with the principles of sustainable development, are categorized as “environmentally friendly” technologies, do not form waste and the treated soil can recover its natural biological activity. The aim of this paper is to study the use of an active consortium of zymogenous microorganisms for ex situ bioremediation of a petroleum contaminant in the soil, along with simultaneous monitoring of the humification process
