Telecommunication systems that operate at frequencies above 10 GHz are strongly impaired by rain. The assessment of the system performance requires local reliable rainfall data, whose scarce availability worldwide has pushed towards the development of rainfall models. This paper presents the MultiEXCELL model, that enhances and extends the original EXCELL model to the eneration of complete rain fields, whose spatial correlation is correctly reproduced. The potentialities of the MultiEXCELL model are illustrated by simulating a twostation site diversity telecommunication system and by evaluating the advantages deriving from the implementation of such a fade mitigation technique
