The phenomenological chain of the sediment motion in mountain environments is here considered, with specifi c reference to the Tartano basin (situated in the Sondrio province). We analyzed the sediment yield from the valley slopes, as well as the consequent sediment transport along the water courses; we used the typical tools of applied geology and fl uvial hydraulics. The yearly sediment production is qualitatively and quantitativelydescribed; in the same way, the annual sediment volume potentially conveyed by the torrents is evaluated.
