Access to the central vasculature is critical for hemodynamic monitoring and for delivery of life-saving therapeutics during emergency medicine and battlefield trauma situations but requires skill often unavailable in austere environments. Automated central vascular access devices (ACVADs) using ultrasound and robotics are being developed.
