The purpose of this study was to determine the 50 most cited articles on shoulder arthroplasty (SA) and their characteristics. The Thomson ISIWeb of Science was searched with the following search terms: “shoulder arthroplasty”, “shoulder replacement”, “shoulder prosthesis” and “shoulder implant”. All papers dealing with SA, including its perioperative and postoperative management, were included in this study. Citations ranged from 797 to 52 for the 50 highest cited papers on SA. According to absolute numbers, the top 10 papers were cited at least 118 times.
