Bergson et la connaissance intellectuelle du monde extérieur

Bergson offers a profound and original study of intellectual cognition which includes the acts of perception effectuated by common sense as well as the scientific knowledge. He claims that our ordinary perception and scientific theories concerning the material world are distorted by a spatial scheme. We shall thus ask what the degree of adequacy of intellectual cognition in regards to external reality is. We attempt to examine the character of this kind of cognition in order to determine to what extent one is able to obtain reliable knowledge about the material world. In this article, we refer to some ideas of Roman Ingarden, a disciple of Husserl, who in his little known work Intuition and Intellect according to Bergson, carried out a systematic and penetrating analysis of Bergson’s theory. Furthermore, we try to clarify what is the contribution of memory in cognition operated by intellect. It seems that its role is not acknowledged enough by the interpreters of Bergson’s thought.Bergson offre une étude profonde et originale du savoir intellectuel qui englobe les actes de perception effectués par le sens commun et la connaissance scientifique. Il constate qu’aussi bien notre perception ordinaire que les théories scientifiques concernant le monde matériel, sont déformées par le schéma spatial. Quel est donc le degré d’adéquation de la connaissance intellectuelle par rapport à la réalité extérieure? Nous tentons d’examiner son caractère afi n de préciser à quel point nous pouvons en obtenir le savoir fiable. Dans notre étude, nous nous référons à certaines idées de Roman Ingarden, le disciple de Husserl, qui dans son oeuvre peu connue Intuition et intelligence chez Bergson a réalisé une analyse pénétrante de la conception bergsonienne. D’autre part, nous essayons de déterminer quel est exactement l’apport de la mémoire dans la connaissance intellectuelle.
