This paper deals with key theoretical and methodological assumptions of innovating and improving the quality of higher education by implementing the project-oriented teaching model. Three aspects of this model are considered, and by using the method of theoretical analysis it is concluded that: a) project-oriented model is based on constructivist teaching method (learning process is based on knowledge construction, as opposed to passively receiving knowledge; larger students` autonomy is required in the realization of tasks; cooperative forms of teaching are dominant; projects are based on real-world problem solving); b) project activities are organized according to the established research procedures (preparing project plans, developing...
