Leke çevrimi, güneş aktivitesinin günümüze kadar birçok bilim insanı tarafından çalışılmış özelliklerinden biridir. ~11 yıllık çevrimin özelliklerinin belirlenmesi için güneş leke gruplarının alanları, konumları, eğim açıları vb. nicelikleri ölçülmüş ve birbirleri ile olan ilişkileri incelenerek tüm çevrimler birbirleri ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Farklı yöntemler kullanılarak yeni çevrimlerin özellikleri tahmin edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Güneş aktivitesi için farklı yöntem ve modeller ile yapılan tahmin çalışmalarının gözlemler ile tam olarak uyuşmadığı görülmüştür.
