The present study aims to analyze the section “Foglietti di diario” of La Sicilia, il suo cuore (Bardi, 1952), the first and only collection of poems by Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia (his centenary was celebrated last year). These five texts are an example of the diary-poems that Sciascia wrote while he was away from his homeland, Sicily, and he was travelling by train to Tuscany and Rome. We have carried out a deep analysis of the meaning of ‘travel’ for Leonardo Sciascia; he was not a traveler or a travel writer, but a man of habit who was deeply attached to his roots and to his land, Sicily, which is a 'metaphor for the world'.
