During the late 1960s and early 1970s the United Farm Workers Union Organizing Committee fought to regulate the use pesticides. Growers where using various pesticides to help increase the production of produce. The pesticides used were hazardous to farm workers as well as the individuals who consumed the products. Mothers who were nursing protested the use of DDT on grapes/produce.
