Church Justice versus Secular Justice : Complementarity and Rivalry in Gascony (from mid-11th to the beginning of the 13th Century). The reforming action of some prelates, particularly that of papal legates, deeply transformed justice as it was practiced by the Gascon Church from the middle of the 11th century to the beginning of the 13th century. The evolution, which was set off in the second half of the 11th century, aimed at enhancing the power of the Church. To do so, the institution was hierachised and new codes of procedural law were implemented.
