Women Hospitallers in Southern France. Women Hospitallers were part of a military religious order. Like priests and other Hospitallers, they did not hold any military functions. Some of the sisters lived in all-men commanderies and others lived in a closed community led by a prioress. There were several novices, donates and consorores who had not made full profession and had not taken vows of poverty, chastity or obedience. In Southern France, there were only two houses for women, both of them founded in the Middle Ages in Quercy by the same family, the Thémines.
