Reading memoirs, diaries, letters of Italian Red Cross nurses it is possible to outline sequences of consent and dissent towards the war. Like artists and writers, all these women begin their war experience as volunteers. Their writings, in recent years rediscovered and analyzed by historian such as Stefania Bartoloni, show that entering in touch with the real war their initial feelings and ideals often change, going sometime towards dissent and condemnation
