Students' producing Podcast project in speaking skills : A qualitative research at the 10th Grade of Gema Nurani Senior High School in Bekasi

Speaking abilities are important in learning a language. Speaking is essential in communicating impressions, ideas, and means to interact with other people who have different languages through oral communication. This research finds students who have problems in speaking English because of having limited opportunities to utilize and practice the language outside the classroom. To overcome these problems, speaking abilities can be developed by various ways so that enable students to increase speaking skills, one of them is the use of technological advancement. This research aims: (1) to find out how do EFL teacher get students to make podcast? (2) to find out students’ speaking ability as reflected in their podcast they made? (3) to find out students perception of podcast as speaking projects. This research used a qualitative method with a case study design. The participants of this research consisted of students of the tenth Grade of SMA IT Gema Nurani Bekasi. The purposive sample was used in this research. This research took one class of students who produced the podcast. The data was gained from observation, recording analysis, and questionnaires. The result of this study revealed three points based on the data collection analysis. First, the process of students making the podcast as a speaking project was implemented with six steps: preparing, designing a project plan, creating the schedule, conducting the project, assessing the outcome, and evaluating. Second, the results of students' speaking abilities based on speaking aspects range from 3-5. Two students get score 5 with excellent criteria, 12 students with score 4 include in very good criteria, and four students with score 3 include in good criteria. Last, regarding the students' answers to the questionnaire, students perceive comfort with the podcasts they produce because their projects are based on interesting themes. They also believe that making podcasts can fluent their English speaking skills In conclusion, students' producing podcast projects in speaking skills can explore students' opportunities to practice speaking English outside the classroom. Producing podcasts influence the process of learning among students. This study is recommended for teachers who need to improve students speaking skills. The limitation of this study is only used podcast once, therefore for future researchers, it is recommended to produce podcasts more than once to increase their opportunities to speak English more fluent and accurate
