Phonological process of two years old Indonesian and English children

This research has a title Phonological Process of Two Year Old Indonesian and English Children. It is one of psycholinguistic branch that studies phonological acquisition, specifically on phonological process in the word production made by two year old Indonesian and English children. This research applied descriptive qualitative method. The writer took the data from the recording and videos of speech delivered by two children aged two years old. The writer used the theory of chonological process by David Ingram (1989). Based on the data analysis and description, the writer found that not all of Ingram’s phonological processes occur in the subject’s word production. There are eight from twelve processes that occur in the subject’s word production, they are: stopping, fronting, gliding, vocalization, labial assimilation, cluster reduction, deletion of final consonant and deletion of unstressed syllable. In addition, the writer also found two other phonological processes which do not reflect Ingram’s theory, they are: lateralization and substitution of vowel. Theoretically, this research expected able to contribute on subject linguistic especially in phonological process. Practically, this research will give knowledge and information for parents and people around the child regarding how the words and sounds are formed in child’s language, in order understand the child when he or she is trying to communicate with the others
