Clipping Words in Caption of Instagram

This research aims to identify the kinds of clipping words with their lexical meanings and contextual meanings in caption of Instagram. Some theoretical frameworks from Marchand (1969) is used to classify the kinds of clipping words and the theory from Lyons (1997) is also used to analyze the lexical meanings and contextual meanings of clipping words. The data sources are taken from Instagram caption of five users. The design of this research is qualitative approach using content analysis method. The results show that the kinds of clipping words are back clipping, clipping compound, and fore clipping. Meanwhile, the results also show that the lexical meanings and contextual meanings have similar meaning to Oxford Learning’s Online Dictionary, Cambridge Online Dictionary, Meriam Webster Online Dictionary, Longman Online Dictionary, and U–Online Dictionary and also the contextual meanings are bound to the condition, place, and time of the caption of Instagram
