The comparison of surah Ya Sin English translation method between Muhammad Abdel Haleems and Hilali-Khans version

This research is related to the comparison of translation method in Surah “Ya Sin” in the Holy Qur’an English translation by Muhammad Abdel Haleem and Hilali-Khan’s version. The steps are collecting all of the data that related with translation method from Surah “Ya Sin”. The steps are reading all of the verses of Surah “Ya Sin”, and arranging the translation method in each verse. Then, the researcher classifies the similarities and differences of the translation method that occurs in Surah “Ya Sin”. Therefore, the researcher gets the result of this analysis. In this research, the researcher used the theory of translation by Peter Newmark to classify the data included the translation method. Furthermore, in this research, the researcher uses the qualitative descriptive as method to explains and describes the analysis. The purpose of this research is to find out the similarities and differences of translation method located in Surah “Ya Sin”. Based on this analysis, the researcher concluded that from 83 verses in surah “Ya sin”, there are 23 similarities and 60 differences of translation method between the English translation by Muhammad Abdel Haleem’s version and Hilali-Khan’s version. Meanwhile, based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that both of Muhammad Abdel Haleem’s version and Hilali-Khan’s version dominantly apply the Free translation method in the English translation of surah “Ya Sin”. Both of translators also tended to more emphasis on the target language (TL), especially on Abdel Haleem's translation. The difference between both of the translations is that the translation by Muhammad Abdel Haleem is more communicative, because it uses more common phrases from the target language. On the other hand, the results of Hilali-Khan's version are still apparent in the sense of Arabic or its more closets to the source language
