Gothicism in Cradle of Filth’s Dusk and Her Embrace lyrics

Focus of the research is song lyric by Cradle of Filth in Dusk and Her Embrace (1996) album as the object of the research which potentially spreads some “negative doctrines”, moreover if Gothic elements as form of a rebellion movement that appeared within the lyrics also having ability to move someone emotion, moreover in an album name that exists more than a decade and still popular till this current time. Narratology, metaphor and intertextuality used to analyze that mentioned lyrics. Narratology is a study about the narrative structure that brought by the narrator. In narratology, a narrator has a significant role in a story while the narrator is the character who describes the story toward audience. Every single piece of story is come from narrative text, and reader builds the story in mind from what the narrator say. In other side, metaphor and intertextuality used to analyze the meaning of metaphors and difficult terms within the lyrics. Analytical descriptive method used to analyze the data, the purpose of the research is to reveal the main story and any kind of Gothicism that described and appeared in that every song lyric. Results of the research indicating that Gothic elements are the smallest part of Gothicism which appeared inside the lyrics that also describing about: the role of villain, maiden in distress, places of the dark, supernatural manifestations, graveyard, castle, night sky, moonlight, candlelight, omen or curse and extreme landscapes. Gothic elements that appeared in the related lyrics from this album make some topics of Gothicism; the topics are Vampirism and Feminism and Paganism
