The purposes of this research are to analyze the compatibility of the materials in the textbooks that used in secondary school to the criteria of good EFL (English as foreign language) textbook and to know the teachers’ responses about the textbook that is used by their own school This research analyzes two English textbooks entitled “English in Focus” and “Passport to the World” for grade VII secondary school. The researcher choose those two textbooks because the textbook that entitled “English in Focus” is the most used by school, because it was provided and published by the government and easy to be accessed and also the price was cheaper than the other English textbook.
