The use of nouns as reference on political articles in the Jakarta Post Newspaper

English as International language or as foreign language especially for Indonesian people is very important to be mastered. However understanding English is very difficult because the words in English are very complex. Therefore the writer here is more interested doing research about noun in English the data taken from The Jakarta Post Newspaper. By doing this research, the researcher intends to know the nouns as references of English used in the Jakarta Post Newspaper, to know the categorization of English nouns used in the Jakarta Post Newspaper and the meanings of nouns as references of English used in the Jakarta Post Newspaper. In this research, the researcher uses the theories about reference. The grand theories used in this research are based on Kreidler’s theory (1998) of Introduction to Semantics and about nouns itself; based on Robert and Evelyn’s theory (2010). Kreidler described that reference is divided into two types, they are referring expression and referent. Robert and Evelyn (2010) described about noun is one of the grammatical categories that are important. The researcher here used Qualitative Method to analyze the data. Qualitative method is suitable with its scientific method. In finding and discussion the facts, firstly, the researcher found the most frequent reference used in the articles in The Jakarta Post Newspaper. The most frequent is general reference as many as eighty nouns, abstract eleven, Unique nought, Non-Unique twelve. The most were used in the article is Non-Unique as many as twelve nouns, variable reference as many as ten and the less frequent is constant reference. These conclusions are arranged based on the research question. And then the researcher tries to give suggestions to the readers such as how to be more understood of English Newspaper and how important the political in wide society is
