The authors describe light, transmission, and scanning electron microscopical features of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD) in 14 dogs. Particular emphasis was placed on scanning electron microscopy which was helpful in documenting changes of the bony epiphysis and articular cartilage in LCPD. Furthermore, modalities through which alterations of the anatomical connections between subchondral spongeosa bone and articular cartilage, mainly responsible for symptoms of the disease, are established and also were studied by scanning electron microscopy
