The research project concentrates on the communication system of the EU and on the crucial role played by new information technologies in the construction of a supranational identity. Against a background of widespread scepticism and scant popular endorsement, the EU is seeking effective ways to prompt civic participation and gather consensus. The institutions’ need to foster a sense of common identity and deeper solidarity among citizens finds reflection in important changes in EU discourse and, consequently, in new strategies adopted in the framework of its communication policies.
