The purification of boiled water extract of T. emetica seeds resulted in the isolation of catechin, a known flavonoid. The structure was established on the basis of spectroscopic methods 1D (1H and 13C) NMR and 2D (COSY, HSQC and HMBC) NMR in addition to the mass spectrometry and comparison with literature data.
