How to transform the environment with a correct use of resources? An example: the australian olympic village

Abstract: My contribution is structured in two main points. One dedicated to reflections about the meaning of correct use of resources in the particular case of Australian country, looking at the way of life in general. The second aimed to represent four principal themes in which is evident the connection among architectural design, the resources use, and the impact on the environment. Travel notes: reflections around resources use In a recent travel in Australia I’ve had the possibility to “feel” the sensibility of Australian people to the nature and the environment. Architects, projects and buildings too are expression of a big respect of nature. Some expression are absolutely normal for Australian people, but are absolutely exceptional for a young Italian architect as i am! Probably to be so close to nature typical of them it shows the real mean of respect of nature. So not only to diffuse sustainable development, now wherever in the world people is alarmed on the future of the globe, but Australian people is expression of a different culture of respect of nature and of love for the globe. Looking at law in theme of urban planning and architectural design this is evident. Architecture and environment A representative realization: the Olympic village. This part is structured on 3 points to show only some particular aspects of the big operation made to build the village. So I’m interested to talk about the architectural project pointing the attention on the way to use resources as fundamental principles in design. I talk about the Olympic village focusing on: 1. location and environment 2. main guidelines in the program made by The Sydney organising committee for the Olympic games (july ‘98) 3. four themes in four projects: a. reduction of energy use and climate control in VELODROME; b. use of photovoltaic technologies in LIGHTING TOWERS; c. sustainable design in REGATTA PAVILLION; d. materials recycle, water recycle in ARCHERY CENTRE
