It is well known that a monochromatic X-ray source with an energy optimized for the organ thickness to be imaged could result in a better image quality in transmission radiology. In this paper we present the preliminary investigation for the implementation of this technique in computer tomography (CT) imaging. The detection system is based on a 1 mm thick silicon pixel detector bump bonded to a VLSI read-out, Medipix2. This detector ensures a good detection efficiency (46%) in the used energy range (60 kVp) with a good spatial resolution that arises from a 55 μm square pixel.
