The roles of elastic, magnetic and magnetomechanical coefficients in the determination of the magnetoelastic wave behaviour have been revised. A proper model in agreement with the most frequently used experimental cases was developed in order to describe the stationary magnetoelastic waves in a ferromagnetic ribbon when its ends are clamped or free. The theoretical results show that, in order to obtain a high amplitude of the magnetic component of the resonant waves, the coexistence of three conditions are necessary; high magnetomechanical coupling coefficient, a high magnetic permeability at a low magnetizing field and a low longitudinal compliance coefficient thigh Young's modulus).
