Tra l'Arno e il Nilo: Ippolito Rosellini e l'Egittologia

The essay traces the history of the Franco-Tuscan Expedition to Egypt (1828-29) and the birth of Egyptology, starting from the material, mostly unpublished, preserved in the archives of Ippolito Rosellini in the University Library of Pisa. Particular attention is devoted to the figure of the scholar of Pisa and the fundamental contribution he gave to the newly-born discipline, illustrated through the study of his unpublished manuscripts and drawings of the Expedition. This research, as well as the exhibition of which the book is the catalogue, were carried out in the frame of the digitization of Rosellini manuscripts in the University of Pisa Library and their publication online, through a searchable web database, a project created and coordinated by M.
