This essay shows that the translator of Plotinus' treatises into Arabic had at his disposal a MS of the Enneads (obviously lost to us) which had not suffered the loss of folios in the central part of treatise IV 7 which affects all the Greek extant mss. It also contends that we can use the Arabic text to get a clearer picture of the transmission of IV 7. What the Arabic gives us is a testimony of the Enneadic text antedating the archetype
