BAHASA JAWA SEBAGAI SARANA KOMUNIKASI DI PONDOK PESANTREN LIRBOYO KOTA KEDIRI (Studi Etnografi Komunikasi Warga Pondok Pesantren Lirboyo)

Making Javanese the main language at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School not only helps the students and teacher to master the language, but also makes them a separate speech community. As a speech community, residents of Islamic boarding schools have a distinctive communication behavior. Therefore, this research was conducted to understand the communication behavior of Islamic boarding schools that use Javanese. The research method used in this research is an ethnographic study of communication, especially from the perspective of linguistic knowledge, interaction skills, and cultural knowledge. Because this research can reveal the role of language in speech communities. Data collection techniques used were participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. With the number of subjects 13 people. The results of the study show that the communication events that describe the communication behavior of Islamic boarding school residents depend on the means of language used. The use of one language is strongly influenced by communication partners or communication participants. In general, Javanese students use simple Javanese to communicate with students outside Java. Changes in communication participants cause changes in other communication components. Thus, there are two forms of communication for Islamic boarding school residents, namely communication with people who are older or of a higher degree such as teacher and communication with people who are the same age or younger
