The National Electricity Market is undergoing an inevitable transformation as the energy sector transitions from fossil-based fuels to renewable energy sources, rendering the existing market design and regulatory regime not fit-for-purpose. This thesis will interrogate government interventions since 2017 and argue that the current market design and regulatory regime operate as barriers to the energy transition. This will demonstrate the limitations of the National Energy Objectives and indicate future areas of reform and research to facilitate the transition. This paper will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to provide a robust legal and regulatory critique
