La latéralisation, définie comme une utilisation asymétrique des deux hémisphères cérébraux lors de la réalisation d’une tâche cognitive, a été découverte et décrite chez l’humain par Marc Dax et Paul Broca au 19ème siècle. Le phénomène a depuis été observé chez de nombreuses autres espèces animales, vertébrées et non vertébrées.
