Assessing the Experiment: Communication via Prototype

The thesis project Assessing the Experiment records and reveals the complexity of transformation from two dimensional work into the work created within the digital realm. My goal is to create an environment in which these disciplines collide and commingle. The work is concerned with both the formal quality of the materials and the theoretical discourse surrounding complex structures found in nature and manmade objects. Through the study of space, light, perspective, shadows and rapid prototyping, I expand the work in three dimensional realms and develop a coherent conversation between geometry and form. The new field that this thesis explores is complex and intermingled within a variety of disciplines and frameworks: painting, sculpture and installation, working within the digital environment and production of prototypes. It is fertile territory for further exploration and refinement. The work’s current resolution, informed by a simplification of material and process, anticipates subtleties in development that can only occur when things are stripped down to their essence
