The ambition of this dissertation is to analyse the practice and theorisation of populism by radical left parties based on a comparative analysis between the cases of Podemos (in Spain) and La France insoumise (in France). Academic research has shown that after the fall of communism in Russia and Eastern Europe (1989-1991), the European radical left reacted in different ways to its own collapse. This thesis focuses on a new type of political party that emerged from this decline: populist socialist parties. For these parties, the stated objective is no longer to ‘bring the left together’ but to ‘federate the people’ against the elite in order for the people to regain its popular sovereignty.
