A Systematic Review of Postpartum Depression and Mother-Infant Bonding Abstract Background: Postpartum depression occurs when a mother experiences hormonal imbalances after childbirth. The postpartum period is vital for mother-infant bonding. During this time, the bond formed between the mother and infant can be greatly impacted if a mother is emotionally depressed. Purpose: The purpose of this systematic literature review is to determine if postpartum depression has an effect on mother-infant bonding.
