Studies conducted over the past ten years indicate that nitric oxide (NO) is a physiological mediator involved in many physiological processes in plants, including germination, root development, stomatal closure or responses against biotic or abiotic stresses. Despite this important range of functions, the mechanisms underlying the effects of NO in plants remain largely unknown.
