Hypermutation due to DNA mismatch repair (MMR) deficiencies can accelerate the development of antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Whether hypermutators generate resistance through predominantly similar molecular mechanisms to wild-type (WT) strains is not fully understood.
