Benzene adsorption on \u3b1-Fe2O3 in the temperature range 300-673 K has been studied. Two different molecular adsorbed forms can be distinguished due to their spectroscopic behavior and the different equilibrium pressures needed for their formation. The more stable form, in which the benzene molecule is \u3c0-bonded on exposed metal cations, slowly transforms at room temperature into combustion products. This process is inhibited by the presence on the surface of the second form of adsorbed benzene. \ua9 1984
