Fractures of the pelvis are the most severe musculoskeletal injury, with an average mortality rate of 40-80% according to the literature. The mortality rate depends on the combination of injuries, with mortality determined more by complications than by the pelvic fracture itself. The structure and function of the hip and pelvis cannot be restored without surgical treatment of fractures in the majority of trauma victims with concomitant injuries. The principle is that all unstable pelvic injuries must be stabilized early in the traumatic illness (if objective conditions exist) before complications develop
