In this paper, by assuming the generalized Lindel\"of hypothesis, we study the Rankin-Selberg problem in families of holomorphic modular forms. By using the Lindel\"of-on-average bound, we also study the Rankin-Selberg problem in families of $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ Hecke-Maass cusp forms.Comment: 19 page
