The notion of ethos, seen in the recent development of studies on discourse analysis is utilized in the study of Val\ue9rie Rouzeau's poetry. In this article it is pointed out that the poet constructs an image of herself, or better than, reading the poems the reader perceives a particular image of the poet. This image is constructed in the poem with the devices used to describe the subject and to show its relationship with the outside world: it is an ethos of solidarity and discretion manifesting a commitment to others, which also reveals a penchant ironic when the subject is confronted and faces difficult situations and the complicated modern world
