Alzheimer\u2019s disease is a dementia characterized by neuronal loss, athrophy, gliosis and clinically by progressive cognitive impairment. The apolipoprotein E type 4 allele is genetically associated with the common late onset familial and sporadic forms of Alzheimer's disease.
